A new life, a new home

After our dear Regina passed away we decided to look for a new family member/companion for Kirby. Of course we wanted another Pembroke Welsh Corgi. We decided to adopt a rescue dog instead of purchasing a puppy for we wanted to give another deserving animal a second chance in life like we had done for Regina (she was also a rescue).

We first contacted the Southern California Corgi Rescue but they did not have any dogs available so we started to look on the web at many different pet adoption websites. We found a site called Corgis & Critters Rescue in east Texas which had various pure breed Corgis available. We were looking for a Tri-colored Corgi (which we have never had before) and they refered us to their sister rescue group called the North Texas Pembroke Corgi rescue group because they had a female that was ready for adoption who was a Black Headed Tri-colored cutie.

Here is her story:
Her name was originally Diana (we call her Didi), she was born on November 1998 in north Texas in a bad situation with a terrible woman who ran a puppy mill (no one should ever buy any animals from a puppy mill, or a pet store that does not get their animals from a registered and reputable breeder).

Didi's first 8 years were spent in an outdoor kennel producing puppies for sale, last november she got sick and got heartworms. This terrible woman who ran the puppy mill did not want or need her now that she became a liability and gave her to the Corgi rescue (at least she did one good thing).

Didi has been under the care of the North Texas Rescue and was treated for all her illnesses and given care and attention. When we first heard about her we were very excited and when we saw some pictures of her we knew we wanted her right away.

Once we made arrangements she was booked passage on American Airlines on Sunday January 29, and she flew from Dallas/Fort Worth Int'l airport to Los Angeles international. This is done all the time, animals fly as "live cargo" in a doggie cage and are put in a pressurized section of the cargo hold. She arrived at LAX and we picked her up at the baggage claim office.

This whole process took less than a week thanks to the internet and to modern day email and transportation. It is truly is amazing how things can be done so quickly nowadays.

The important thing is that we have given a wonderful and deserving preacious little dog a second chance at life. She is healthy and soooo grateful, Kirby loves her and they are getting along fine. It is very cool to see them together and the contrast between their colors. One can never replace a beloved pet and Regina will always be with us in our hearts, as is Hoover. But Didi does fill a giant void in our lives (and Kirby's) and she is now in her permanent home.
